“Social Media is about people, ideas, and things. Mostly, in that order.” — Jason Broadwater, RevenFlo
Being social is one of our most natural states of being. Yet, engaging in social activity online is daunting and difficult for our businesses and organizations. The main reason is that social behavior is about the individual and an organization is inherently about the collective.
We have allowed individuals to represent our companies forever. Picture all of the people sitting in the chairs at the Chamber meetings or the Economic Development meetings or at the charitable events. These individuals who wear the name tag of their organization, they are themselves among other professionals having personal conversations and building relationships.
“Authenticity is everything. Be yourself, passionate, serve well, then simply show people what you are doing.” — Jason Broadwater, RevenFlo
In the social media spaces, if you are simply willing to listen and engage and share and add value, then you are a welcome collaborative partner. Relationships and conversations and opportunities follow. It’s the most natural thing… to be social. The difficulty lies in giving over to the effort and dedicating resources. To be successful in social media spaces, you must allow and support individuals to venture into these spaces and be authentic, to add value, and to participate in conversations.
Social Media is about people. You need to have a group of people commit to the consistent activity of communicating. The key is authenticity, exploration, and adding value – relationships come naturally to those who are willing to be social.
