The 2016 Googly Eye Challenge

So What’s a Googly Eye Challenge?

2016 marked the first year of the Googly Eye Challenge—a competition to create more pictures with Googly Eyes for the world to enjoy. Teams compete for points based on specific prompts, such as “Add Googly eyes to a piece of beautiful artwork.” Pictures are uploaded to Facebook with the hashtag #googlyeyechallenge, and after a week event, judges (including me) award points to determine the winner.

Emily Thomson of the winning team commented, “Some of our pictures are still staring at us… And the kids keep going around trying to find more things with googly eyes on them.”

Prizes this year included:

  • A lifetime supply of googly eyes!
  • A chance to spend a day with the Googly Eye Challenge judges at the destination of their choice!
  • A real life Starbucks gift card!
  • And the 2016 GOOGLY EYE MYSTERY PRIZE! (which was an inflatable dinosaur costume)

Then pose together with Googly eyes. 20 points,” and “Confess your feelings to your secret crush or the one you love with Googly eyes. 35 points.” The event is about having fun and social networking.  Not to mention, there is a special feeling of ownership when you create and capture something yourself (vs. just uploading existing memes to Facebook.)

To participate next year, like/follow the Facebook Page and wait impatiently for the excitement to begin.
