YouLead Student Leadership Takes On Marshmallow Challenge

On Nov. 4, York County’s YouLead student leadership team stopped by RevenFlo to talk to Founder, Jason Broadwater, about how to problem solve through ingenuity. By using “creativity to see opportunity,” Broadwater encouraged the group to find out how their individual and group skills could help solve others’ problems. His message was central to Knowledge Park’s Innovation Initiative, a project to increase creativity, economy, and opportunity in the Rock Hill community.

Broadwater presented to the students the Marshmallow Challenge, a timed group test to see how teams can create a marshmallow-topped free-standing structure in only 18 minutes using only string, tape, raw spaghetti, and one marshmallow. With the clock started and the problem identified, teams worked together to find creative solutions. The exercise exemplified much of what RevenFlo and the Initiative does—that of crafting innovative strategies to overcome obstacles, whether it be through technology or uncooked pasta.
