Rock Hill, SC – This is a Special Place

During this year’s Rock Hill State of the Community Breakfast, City of Rock Hill Mayor, Doug Echols, had positive words to share about the city’s growing notoriety as a sport’s destination. The growing list of athletic and outdoor amenities is impressive.

A rising star this year is the Rock Hill Outdoor Center at Riverwalk with its newly opened Giordana Velodrom. The development of Riverwalk has given the city an idyllic place to stroll along with access to the Catawba River. Designs for BMX Supercross, Cyclo Cross and a closed road course are in the works, and will soon compliment the velodrome.

World class amenities in Rock Hill like the Outdoor Center, Tennis Center, and Manchester Meadows attract national championships. They provide great recreation opportunities for those who live here and lure others who seek the lifestyle Rock Hill is providing.

Other speakers at the breakfast included Winthrop University President, Dr. Anthony DiGiorgio, Rock Hill Schools Superintendent, Dr. Lynn Moody, York Technical College President, Dr. Greg Rutherford, and Clinton Junior College President, Dr. Elaine Copeland. Not daunted by their own economic struggles, local school leaders had positive words and proactive approaches to share as well. Among the stand outs was Dr. DiGiorgio expressing Winthrop’s commitment to spur business development in Rock Hill, and the possibility of Winthrop winning a bid for the Big South Tournament. If chosen, the event would be held in Rock Hill.
