Catawba Indian Nation Chief on SC Casino

Chief William Harris of the Catawba Indian Nation presented an economic impact update for the tribe’s proposed casino. Jason Broadwater, president of RevenFlo Web Team, along with other York County Regional Chamber Government Task Force Board Members participated in the most recent talks. Along with building plans, Chief Harris presented an economic impact estimated at $182 million for York County.

Currently, Catawba Nation is pursuing a lawsuit filled against the state asserting their legal rights to build a casino on federal territory. Video gaming is illegal in South Carolina. The state law, however, does not apply to federal territory. Catawba Nation believes they are entitled to open a gaming facility on their reservation. Their intent is to bring economic benefit to the Tribe as well as to York County.

York County Regional Chamber took no action at the recent meeting.
