A Semester at RevenFlo

To say the life of a college student is stressful can be an understatement. For me, juggling classes, homework, a job, sleep, and a social life was enough to almost fill up my schedule. So when I heard about an opening at RevenFlo, I figured “why not go all in and juggle an internship as well?” Fast forward a few months later, with a lot of late nights and early mornings, and I have to say coming to RevenFlo was one of the best decisions I made during my entire college career. Not only did it give me something nice to put on my resume, it also taught me a lot of valuable lessons that I will never forget.

A workplace = a fun place

I have seen it in movies all the time; every worker is trapped in a cubicle for hours as the life is sucked out of them. Here at RevenFlo the environment is like night and day compared to what you see in the movies. The workspace is open, and the RevenFlo team is just as open to each other. You can hear jokes, music, and friendly conversation, and if you are lucky Jason may play a few notes on the guitar or speak a little Spanish. You can tell everyone works hard here, but it feels like a second home more than a job. Everyone is friends with everyone, and when you are the new guy everyone welcomes you with open arms. They even encourage you to add your own charm to the workplace by decorating the walls with whatever you want and filling your desk with your own unique flair. This type of environment seemed like a myth to me. A professional workplace that lets you be you sounds impossible, right? Well it’s real at RevenFlo.

Creativity is wanted

I have been in other situations where the higher ups have a vision and need you to make it come true, and it needs to be done their way. At RevenFlo anytime I am given a task I have had full reigns on what I can do. I have always pictured myself as the thinking-outside-the-box type, and I feel like that type of mindset is supported here. If I have a vision for something I am encouraged to follow through on it. Not once have my ideas or the ideas of anyone else been shot down. I personally have learned that I am more creative than I thought and that I actually have interesting ideas. RevenFlo has done an excellent job of showing me the type of work I can actually create. It has also taught me that I want to be in a job in the future where my creativity is encouraged, not deflated.

Parting is such sweet sorrow

At my retail job every time I leave I feel like I am hunched over and miserable. That’s because I feel like I just wasted the past eight hours of my life accomplishing nothing. However, when I leave RevenFlo I always hold my head high and walk tall. I feel like I did something each day I leave here. When anyone asks me about my day, they get an enthusiastic response about what I did at RevenFlo. It is always the highlight of my day. My family has grown all too accustomed to hearing about my day when I come home from RevenFlo.

Meetings are social gatherings

Again, the mainstream media has given meetings a bad rap. They always look and feel more like an interrogation than anything. At RevenFlo a meeting is more of a social gathering and brainstorm session rather than what’s depicted on TV. Everyone is always smiling and having a good time. There is time for work-based discussion and just general things as well. When the meeting reaches a problem that needs to be solved, everyone’s voice is heard. I have seen far more get accomplished at a RevenFlo meeting and more people enjoy themselves at one than any other meeting I have attended.

Don’t forget to share your birthday

I am not going to go too much into detail on this one, just know RevenFlo goes hard on someone’s birthday. You definitely don’t want to miss out on it. Especially if you are a fan of confetti and air horns.

Community (not the TV show)

RevenFlo has a huge focus on the Rock Hill community. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are associated with every business, building, or person in Rock Hill in some way, shape, or form. I have actually learned more about the Rock Hill community here at RevenFlo than I ever did living close to the area for 10 years.

Variety is the spice of life

Let’s be honest, what doesn’t RevenFlo do? They have such a large variety of projects going on, there has to be something interesting for everyone. If it isn’t helping a charity, they are planning an event, or having a call to action by using their fantastic videos, or designing a website for a company. Whatever you are interested in, they are probably doing it. This was one of the main reasons I enjoy RevenFlo so much. Every day was a new adventure, you never knew what new project you were going to work on next. I learned that I enjoy being given a large project and completing it bit by bit every day, until the last day when it all comes together.

Life after college

If you are anything like me, thinking about a career after college can be unsettling. It’s a big world out there, and finding a job that coincides with your degree can be difficult. It is especially hard when you constantly ask yourself “is this the right degree for me?” I can finally say that after spending a few months here at RevenFlo life after college is more exciting than college itself. I can’t wait to see if other companies are as exciting as RevenFlo, or if I just got lucky finding the needle in the hay stack.
